Seloko Num Compensa!

There is an immediate sense of judgment in “Seloko Num Compensa!”—the kind of response that shuts down an idea before anyone has time to explain it. The wording is informal Brazilian Portuguese: “seloko” is a stylized form of “cê é louco,” while “num compensa” is a conversational version of “não compensa,” meaning that something is not worth the effort, risk, money, or stress. Together, the phrase lands as a colorful “Are you out of your mind? That’s not worth it!” rather than a calm, literal assessment.

The audio works because its attitude is easy to understand even for listeners who do not speak Portuguese. It can punctuate an absurd plan, a disastrously expensive purchase, a risky in-game decision, or a friend suggesting one more round after everything has gone wrong. In a soundboard, it brings a distinctly Brazilian flavor to group calls and gaming lobbies, while the familiar rhythm of disbelief makes it accessible in multilingual spaces. The title’s alternate spellings—such as “seloko-num-compensa” and “se-loko-num-compensa”—reflect the casual, phonetic way internet slang is often written. Drop it after an unreasonable request, a spectacular fail, or any moment where the sensible verdict is obvious: absolutely not worth it.
