I Wanna Be The Very Best

Few phrases summon the world of Pokémon as quickly as “I Wanna Be The Very Best.” The title is closely associated with the franchise’s iconic English theme, a rousing anthem built around ambition, exploration, friendship, and the drive to rise to every challenge. Its tone is bright and motivational rather than intimidating, giving it the feel of a personal rallying cry for anyone preparing to take on a rival, a difficult task, or an absurdly competitive moment online.

On a soundboard, the clip works especially well when someone announces an over-the-top goal, starts a new game, enters a tournament, or treats an ordinary task like the final battle of a championship journey. It can punctuate a Pokémon reference without needing much explanation, while also functioning more broadly as a humorous soundtrack for try-hard energy and determined self-confidence. The nostalgia is a major part of its appeal: longtime fans may connect it with watching the animated series, while newer listeners can still recognise its adventurous, sing-along character through the franchise’s enduring cultural presence.

Its strongest use comes from contrast. Pair the grand, heroic sentiment with a tiny achievement—a successful snack run, a clean game round, or finally answering one email—and the joke lands immediately. The result is uplifting, theatrical, and unmistakably Pokémon-themed without losing its usefulness outside the fandom.
