Was That The Bite Of 87

“Was That The Bite Of 87” is instantly associated with Five Nights at Freddy’s and the franchise’s mysterious Bite of ’87 lore. Delivered as a startled question, the phrase transforms a confusing or alarming moment into theatrical investigation: something happened, nobody is quite sure what, and the speaker is already reaching for the most dramatic explanation available.

Its appeal comes from the contrast between the serious wording and the situations where people usually deploy it. A minor mishap, an awkward pause, a strange sound, or an unexpectedly aggressive game mechanic can all suddenly become a supposed piece of animatronic history. The clipped phrasing gives the audio a sharp, reaction-ready rhythm, while the reference adds instant recognition for horror-game fans and online gaming communities.

On a soundboard, it works especially well as a response to sudden visual changes, failed attempts, jump scares, suspicious gameplay moments, or a friend making an unwise decision. It can be played sincerely for mock panic or used ironically when the event is completely ordinary. The result is less a straightforward question than a burst of meme logic: dramatic, confused, and committed to the bit. “Was That The Bite Of 87” brings a recognizable Five Nights at Freddy’s flavor to conversations, streams, multiplayer sessions, and reaction-heavy edits.
