Banshee

“Banshee” sounds like a warning dragged out of the darkness: a high, cutting wail that feels less like ordinary speech and more like a supernatural cry. The name draws on the banshee, a figure from Irish folklore traditionally associated with an eerie lament, so the effect naturally carries a haunted, ominous atmosphere. Even without visual context, its tone can make a moment feel suddenly unsafe or wildly theatrical.

On a soundboard, the clip works as an immediate punctuation mark. Drop it into a horror-themed video when something appears off-screen, place it behind a character’s exaggerated panic, or let it interrupt a calm conversation for comic shock value. The sustained, vocal quality also makes it useful for reaction edits, spooky livestream overlays, escape-room ambience, and game moments involving monsters, danger, or unexpected failure.

Its strongest quality is recognisability: listeners do not need a long explanation to understand that something alarming—or absurdly dramatic—has just happened. Used sparingly, “Banshee” can create suspense. Used at exactly the wrong moment, it becomes pure chaos, especially beside deadpan dialogue or an otherwise quiet scene. The result is a flexible horror cue that can lean genuinely unsettling, playfully melodramatic, or hilariously over-the-top depending on what surrounds it.
