Squashing

There is an immediate physicality to “Squashing”: you can almost imagine a soft object being pressed, flattened, or crushed beneath sudden force. Rather than reading as a sharp crash or explosive impact, the effect leans into texture—muffled pressure, a wet or rubbery squeeze, and the slightly uncomfortable comedy of something losing its shape. That makes it especially expressive in short-form edits and reaction-heavy conversations.

The sound can punctuate a visual gag involving a failed landing, an overstuffed object, a cartoon character getting flattened, or an absurdly forceful button press. It also works as an exaggerated response to bad luck: someone makes a questionable decision, and “Squashing” supplies the imaginary consequence. Because the effect is compact and easy to recognize, it can land as a punchline without overwhelming dialogue or background music.

On a soundboard, its appeal comes from flexibility. Pair it with a sudden zoom, a freeze-frame, a crushed-object image, or a deliberately dramatic pause for comic timing. It can also serve as a playful sound-design layer beneath footsteps, object handling, or a deliberately over-the-top transformation. The title leaves room for interpretation, while the audio’s compressed, squishy quality gives that interpretation a clear physical feel.
