Times Up

The phrase “Times Up” carries immediate pressure: the allotted moment has ended, the answer window is closed, and hesitation no longer helps. As an audio cue, it can frame a timed challenge with a clean sense of finality, making the transition from anticipation to outcome instantly understandable. The sound works especially well in quizzes, party games, classroom activities, livestream interactions, and short-form comedic edits built around someone arriving just a little too late.

Its usefulness comes from how little explanation it needs. Played after a countdown, it confirms that the clock—not the participant—has made the decision. Dropped into a conversation, it can also act as a playful referee, cutting off an overlong excuse or punctuating a deliberately dramatic pause. The tone can land as stern, theatrical, competitive, or knowingly silly depending on the surrounding moment.

On a soundboard, “Times Up” is an efficient punctuation mark rather than background atmosphere. It announces an ending without requiring a long musical sting, and its concise delivery keeps fast-moving content from losing momentum. Pair it with timer sounds, buzzer effects, wrong-answer clips, or reaction audio to build a complete game-show-style sequence, or let it stand alone whenever the joke depends on the deadline being unmistakably over.
